Pack Some Sizzle in Your Trailer

Rarely do we stop to examine life moment by moment, unless moments occur that stop it for us …

The success of a book trailer depends on your ability to convey a compelling message in a compelling way. For the Bella trailer, we told a little about the story, described the major themes, and steered viewers to the website. We included provocative imagery, intriguing music, and a few scenes with real actors. And we did it in under two minutes.

Those two minutes took months to produce, and there were numerous revisions in the story board, which can be seen here.

There’s a rhythm to this process, and certain chords you must strike to capture a viewer’s attention. Special thanks to filmmaker Dara Padwo-Audick, who to my mind crafted one of the best book trailers you’ll find anywhere.

Watch the video on the homepage, take a look at the story board, and please post your thoughts or questions.

Yep, we script and storyboard my videos. Of course, that is what my husband does for a living – storyboard. And our daughter follows in his footsteps.

Thank you, Sibel; it was an interesting exercise trying to condense an entire book into less than two minutes!
